Kelly Oubre, Jr. signs with Converse (and Nike)

Converse has brought Washington Wizards small forward Kelly Oubre Jr. into its fold. The  deal is unique in that Oubre Jr. will Converse shoes off the court but Nike shoes on the court ( for those who may not know, Nike owns Converse).

According to ESPN’s Nick DePaula , the deal will focus on the increased attention given (for some reason) to the Association’s arena entry fashion with Oubre Jr. to debut a number of new Converse sneakers this year via his pregame entries.

Every game since my rookie year, I came in and just always wanted to look nice and always wanted to outdo myself. [Style isn’t] about anybody else, it’s about how you feel in what you’re wearing.”- Kelly Oubre Jr.

It appears the move could be a path for the reanimation of Converse performance, joining the likes of Puma, who returned to the basketball space this season. Converse has hinted that a performance model could be forthcoming in 2019.
