NBL oncourt kicks : Who rocked the best sneakers in Round 13

The sneaker culture in National Basketball League, the professional league in Australia, has not reached the level that it is in the NBA yet but that is starting to change.

On the league’s website, nba.com.au, a recent story was featured with a poll asking fans who wore the best sneakers in the latest round of games.

Since we are fans of this league, basketball and sneakers, we thought we would let you weigh in on their poll. The nominees will be posted below as well as the poll.

Melo Trimble – Under Armour HOVR Havoc Low

If you are a fan do University of Maryland basketball, Melo Trimble should be a familiar name. In his three years running the point in College Park, the former McDonald’s All-American averaged 15.9 points, 3.9 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game. This is his first season in the NBL with the Cairns Taipans and he has continued to rock UA, as he has since college. Here he is wearing the Under Armour HOVR Havoc Low.

Brian Bowen- Nike PG2 “Mamba Mentality”

The former McDonald’s All-American is the first player to be signed to the NBL’s Next Stars program, which wa launched in March 2018 to help provide alternative paths for NBA prospects do not want to or cannot play college basketball. Bowen, who signed with the Sydney Kings back in August wears the Nike PG 2 “Mamba Mentaility.”

David Andersen Illawarra Hawks- Jordan Why Not Zer0.1 “Chaos”

David Andersen became the oldest player to win a NBL title, when last season at the age of 37, he helped the Melbourne United win it all. This season the forward is lacing them up for the Illawarra Hawks and for round 13 sported the “Chaos” colorway of Russell Westbrook’s Why Not Zer0.1

Josh Boone, Melbourne United- Nike PG 2 ID

UCONN fans may remember the big man for his three years of patrolling the paint in Storrs. After four years in the NBA with the New Jersey Nets, Boone took his game all over the globe, including China, the D-League, The Philippines, Bahrain, Estonia, Russia, Turkey, Hong Kong, and Australia. His current run with Melbourne is actually his second time running with the United; he was signed with the club back in 2016 as an injury replacement player. For round 13, he took these ID PG 2’s to the court, which are inspired by the colors of his native Maryland.

Dane Pineau, Sydney Kings – Under Armour SC 3ZERO II

The Sydney Kings big man has been running in the Under Armour SC 3ZERO II for round 13. Pineau has been rocking UA since his days at Saint Mary’s.

Devon Hall, Cairns Taipans – Nike LeBron 15 “Fruity Pebbles

The Taipans’ forward took the “Fruity Pebbles” Lebron 15 to the court for round 13. At 10.0 points per game, Hall is Cairns’ third leading scorer behind Melo Trimble’s 22.1 and Nathan Jawai’s 12.1.
