Albany State defeats Morehouse 21-15 on Senior Day.

The Albany State Golden Rams picked up their sixth win in their last seven games, with a 21-15 defeat of the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers on Senior Day.

Kelias Williams threw for 145 yards, completing 10-of-24 passes, two touchdowns and rushing yards (19). Tracy Scott rushed for 133 yards and Rashad Jordan recorded 54 reception yards. Defensively, Tyler ScottMalik Barnes and Anthony Harvey paced the Golden Rams with five tackles each.


Morehouse (3-6, 1-4 SIAC) was led offensively by quarterback Michael Sims, leading the Maroon Tigers in passing yards (115). Sims completed 15-of-31 passes. Tremell Gooden the games’ leading receiver finished with three receptions and 60 yards. Jonathan Mathis and KJ Phillips led Morehouse with eight tackles each respectively.


Morehouse got on the board first on a 38-yard field goal by Fernando Dela to give the Maroon Tigers a 3-0 lead to close out the first quarter. Albany State’s Tracy Scott put the Golden Rams on the scoreboard at the 12:30 mark of the second quarter, booting a 91-yard run into the endzone for the 7-3 lead. Morehouse answered with adding its first touchdown of the contest at the 00:41 mark, when Michael Sims connected with Tremell Gooden on a 15-yard pass to take a 9-7 lead. At the half, the Maroon Tigers secured the lead, 9-7.

In the third quarter, Albany State added a touchdown on a 21-yard pass at the 12:26 mark to take a 14-9 lead. The Golden Rams rounded out the competition by adding their final touchdown of the game when Kelias Williams connected with Kristian Grant on a three yard pass at the 12:15 mark, bringing the score to 21-9. Morehouse answered adding its final touchdown when Michael Sims connected with Santo Dunn on a 10-yard pass to bring the final score 21-15.

ASU finished the competition with 382 total offensive yards and were  2 of 11 on third down conversions. ASU went 1 of 2 of its red-zone scoring chances and had a total of 237 total rushing yards and secured one rushing touchdowns.

The Golden Rams will return to action on Nov. 9th in the 30th Annual Fountain City Classic as they take on rival Fort Valley State University. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
