Alliance of American Football set to launch in 2019

With its 2020 relaunch , the XFL will not be the only new football league on the horizon.

Charlie Ebersol–the son of NBC exec Dick Ebersol, who was Vince MaMahon’s partner during the XFL’s infamous first run– announced via a press release the Alliance of American Football is to debut on February 9, 2019 on CBS.

Former NFL general manager Bill Polian was called in to help oversee the league. Former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu will be in charge on the player side while J.K. McKay has the same role on the team side.

The league will consist of teams in eight yet-to-be announced cities. The squads will have 50 players and will be mostly constructed through regionally-based drafts.

The Alliance for American Football will have no TV timeouts and sixty percent fewer commercials. There will also no kickoffs and rather than onside kicks, trailing team will receive the ball on their own 35-yard line facing fourth down and 10. There will also be a 30-second play clock and mandatory two-point conversion attempts after touchdowns.
