Attempted sneaker thief gets killed trying to rob seller

You play stupid games you win stupid prizes.

Things ended very badly for a sneaker thief in Rosedale, Maryland.

According to Officer Jennifer Peach of the Baltimore County PD, 20-year-old Kumar Burney, of Rosedale, made arrangements to purchase an expensive pair of shoes from a man on a popular selling application.

The meeting location and time was Rosedale’s Golden Ring Shopping Center last Sunday at 5:30 p.m.

Peach said, “While this exchange was occurring, the buyer apparently attempted to rob the seller of the item he was there to buy. At that point, the seller actually retrieved a hand gun and shot the buyer one time. ”

The seller called emergency services and remained at the scene. A loaded handgun from Burney, who subsequently died at the hospital.

“That [the finding of the handgun] supports the allegation that he was actually committing a robbery at the time,” said Officer Peach.

The seller was interviewed and then released by police.

The Baltimore county police have designated their precincts as safe exchange zones and they encourage people to meet there to complete their online transactions. The department has also released a Holiday Crime Prevention Tips.

Officer Peach offers this bit of advice for both buyers and sellers who insist on engaging in these types of transactions: ”[Do it in] Some place that’s not private. It’s not off the beaten path, where other people are going to be able to see what’s going on. That makes it very less likely that something bad will happen,”
