Brazilian brand launches latest vegan sneaker

The IBI High is the latest addition to Brazilian eco brand’s Cariuma’s sustainable sneaker lineup.

The new model is vegan-friendly and sports a bamboo-spun two piece knitted upper with a Intertek-certified eco-friendly water repellent layer. According to the brand the two piece construction leaves behind no post-production textile waste and the minimal stitching used keeps the energy and overall waste down.

The IBI High utlilzes a vegan bio-foam insole and an inner that is lined with recycled cork and organic mamona oil. Laces and logo labels are produced from the threads of recycled plastics. The midsole and outsole are made from sugarcane; the packaging is also 100% recyclable.

As part of Cariuma’s commitment to being ecologically responsible, the brand says for every pair of their shoes sold, they plant a pair of trees in the Brazilian rainforest. According to the brand, as of last months, they had planted 200,000 trees.

Speaking to Green Queen, Cariuma co-founder and chief creative officer Fernando had this to say:

“It’s always challenging to launch new products – especially the ones with a big commitment to sustainability and performance like our IBI line. But I think the world is actually eager for products like this, now during Covid, more than ever.”

The IBI High launched October 20 and are currently available at cariuma.com with a $129 USD sticker price.
