MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Head coach Tim Place and the Chowan Football team releases their 2019 schedule looking to build off a stellar 2018 season after posting a 6-4 overall record and a 4-2 mark in the CIAA last season.

The 2019 slate features four home contests and six road games including back-to-back contests against the 2018 CIAA Football Championship participants.

Chowan will start off the season on road against UVa-Wise on September 7.  The Hawks and Cavaliers will meet for the first time on the gridiron since 2005.  UVa-Wise finished with a 4-6 overall record as a member of the Mountain East Conference before moving to the South Atlantic Conference this season.

The Hawks will host Alderson-Broaddus the following week before stepping into CIAA cross-divisional action against Shaw.  The match-up against the Battlers will be the first after a five year absence.  CU took the first meeting in 2013 before falling the following season.  ABU went 4-7 last season in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC).  Chowan and Shaw will meet in a league contest for the second straight season.  The 2018 meeting went the way of the Hawks after being moved because of Hurricane Florence.  Chowan took the meeting 47-27 on the final week of the season.

The Blue and White will set out on a four-week road-trip starting off with the return trip to McKendree on September 28.  The Hawks defeated the Bearcats 55-45 in Murfreesboro.  McKendree finished with a 6-5 overall record.  Chowan will jump back into CIAA play facing the CIAA Southern Division and Northern Division champions, Fayetteville State and Bowie State, in back-to-back weekends (Oct. 5 and Oct. 12).  Chowan fell to the Broncos, 40-38, last season and defeated the Bulldogs, 42-23, at home.  The Blue and White wrap-up the road trip against Virginia Union on October 19.

Then, Chowan will host rival, Elizabeth City State, on October 26 for homecoming before welcoming Virginia State on November 2 for Senior Day and Hall of Fame.

The Hawks conclude the regular season with a trip to Lincoln (Pa.) on November 9.
