CIAA releases men’s and women’s basketball tournament schedule

Tournament features extended bracket to accommodate 13 men’s and women’s teams

Charlotte, NC – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) reveals its 2019 conference championship brackets which features two key addition.  The tournamnet slate now features a total of 26 teams (13 men, 13 women) with the addition of Claflin University.  This provides an opportuity to extend the competition to 24 games over the five-day touranment, beginning with two addiitonal play-in games on Monday, February 25.  Championship Saturday sees the men’s game move up to a 4:30 p.m. start with the women’s game at 1:00 p.m.

The women’s bracket will kick off tournament competition on Monday night at Bojangles’ Coliseum at 6:00 p.m with the No. 6 and No. 7 seeds.  On Tuesday, seeds No. 3-6 compete in four early round games while the No. 1 seed enjoys a first round bye and the No. 2 seed a first and second round bye. The women’s quarterfinals will begin on Wednesday, each contest featuring the top seeded women’s teams of the conference. The quarterfinals round will then conclude on Thursday as teams transition to competition in the Spectrum Center (formerly Time Warner Cable Arena) when the No. 2 seeds of the CIAA will make their tournament debut. Two semifinals contests will be held on Friday prior to the Women’s Championship which is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET at the Spectrum Center.

The men’s bracket features an opening round contest at 8:00 p.m.between the No. 6 and No. 7 seeds on Monday night.  Opening rounds continue on Tuesday with two contests featuring the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds of the CIAA. On Wednesday, two quarterfinal matchups , featuring the No. 1 seeds, begin that afternoon. Like the women’s schedule, the men’s quarterfinals will conclude with two games in the NBA Hornets’ Spectrum Center before the semifinals round on Friday night. The Men’s Championship is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET at the Spectrum Center.

The CIAA Women’s and Men’s Basketball Tournament will be held February 25 – March 2 in Charlotte, North Carolina. All 24 tournament games will be broadcast on the CIAA Sports Network. Aspire TV will carry six games beginning with the men’s quarterfinal action on Thursday at 3:00 p.m through the championship.
