Clark’s career-high not enough for SAU to overcome Virginia Union

RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 4) – Shankia Clark (Jr./Orlando, FL) scored a career-high 18 points in 16 minutes for Saint Augustine’s University in a 109-49 women’s basketball loss to nationally-ranked Virginia Union University at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va., on Friday.

Clark was 5 of 9 from the floor and 8 of 12 from the free throw line off the bench. Her previous career high was 11 points against Claflin University on Nov. 19, 2018.

Angela Caraballo (Jr./Richmond, VA) added nine points and Kamya Renwicks (Jr./Baltimore, MD) collected six points, four rebounds and five assists for the Lady Falcons. Jordyn Burton (Fr./Durham, NC) pulled down five rebounds.
Shareka McNeill led five double-figure scorers with 29 points for the Lady Panthers (10-1 overall), ranked 13th nationally in the WBCA Coaches Poll and 18th nationally in the D2SIDA poll. Rejoice Spivey finished with 15 points and 13 assists. 
The contest did not count in the league standings. Both teams meet again in a CIAA conference game in Raleigh, N.C., on Jan. 14.

The Lady Falcons (2-9 overall) play the first of six consecutive home games on Monday, Jan. 7, against Elizabeth City State University. The non-conference game between CIAA schools begins at 2 p.m. inside Emery Gymnasium.
