FAMU kicks off season with win over Texas Southern in inaugural Jake Gaithersburg Classic

FANU used a combination of solid quarterback play from Ryan Stanley and stout defense in a dominating win over Texas Southern in the inagural Jake Gaithersburg classic.

Stanley went 19-32 for 217 yards, one touchdown through the air and another on the ground and no interceptions. Stanley's rushing TD got the scoring going and that was followed by 25 yard touchdown scamper by FAMU running back Devin Bowers and the Rattlers would not look back from there. A 36-yard scoring strike from Stanley to Brandon Norwood sealed the deal early on.

The rest of the game was academic and Texas Southern's lone score came on one of the few plays where Tigers' QB wasn't running for his life and found Dalvin Kidsy on a 30 yard pass play in the fourth quarter for their lone score. Christophe had a rough day at the office; FAMU harassed him into completing just 12 of his 39 attempts and also throwing a pick.

Up next for the Rattlers is Arkansas, while rival Prairie View looms on the horizon for Texas Southern.
