Former Portland Trail Blazers star Clifford Robinson dies at 53

If 2020 was a year, I think we would all like to give it a collective punch in the face and a boot to the ass.

Clifford Robinson, the former headband clad Portland Trail Blazer forward, has passed away at 53.

The unfortunate news was announced by his alma mater, UCONN.

“He was our first great player,” former UConn coach Jim Calhoun told David Borges of Hearst Connecticut Media. “He came from a difficult background in Buffalo; I watched him evolve as a man. … He was a good man, had a great career, and was instrumental in a lot of the great things that happened at UConn.”

After being a standout at Riverside High , he would then move on to Storrs to ball for UCONN, where he would become a major contributor to the Huskies over his last three seasons, culminating in his senior year where he averaged 20.0 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per contest. Following the Robinson was taken in the second round by the Blazers in the second round of the 1989 NBA Draft.

Robinson would carve himself out as a valuable contributor to the Trail Blazers, winning the leagues’s Sixth Man of the Year award for the 1992-93 season and chasing that with an All-Star appearance in 1994.

in addition to the Blazers, Robinson would also suit up for the Suns, Pistons, Warriors and the Nets before retiring in 2007.

Clifford Robinson is survived by his wife Heather , and son Isaiah.
