Golden State wins third title in four years with sweep of Cavaliers

After playing one of the worst games of his career in game 3, Stephen Curry scored 37 points as the Golden State Warriors blew out the Cleveland Cavaliers 105-85 to complete a sweep and win back-to-back titles and their third in four seasons.

The Warriors seemed to remember what happened to them last year in Game 4,losing in emphatic fashion, 137-116, and came out and jumped on the Cavaliers 13-3 early and would control nearly all of the first half. Though the Cavaliers would cut the lead to single digits multiple times through the course of the first half, their effort was largely was listless and they seemed resigned to the fact they were going to lose.

The Warriors outscored the Cavaliers in the third quarter 25-13 to extend the lead to 21 points headed into the fourth quarter and at that point, especially given the Cavaliers’ “effort”, the game was over.

Kevin Durant recorded a triple double with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists. Durant was also named Finals MVP for the second consecutive year. Although LeBron James had 23 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds, his effort seemed largely uninspired and it appeared he checked out mentally halfway through the contest. He exited the game for good with 4:03 to go to a rousing applause as the fans realized they could be seeing James for the last time in the colors of their beloved Cavaliers.

If there was any doubt about this Golden State Warriors team being a dynasty, that has now been dispelled.
