Hampton blasts ECSU 65-7

Box Score HAMPTON, VA. – The Elizabeth City State University Viking football team was dealt their first loss of the 2019 season at the hands of Hampton, 65-7, on Saturday evening at Armstrong Stadium.

The Pirates came out and struck first with a Deondre Francois five-yard touchdown run at the 12:47 mark of the first quarter. The Florida State transfer connected on a seven-yard pass to Jadakis Bonds for the second touchdown of the afternoon. Shai McKenzie then notched a 30-yard touchdown run to round out the Hampton scoring in the first quarter.

Hampton notched a field goal and three touchdowns in the second quarter to lead 44-0 at half.

Coming out of the halftime break Hampton scored two rushing touchdowns; a Shai McKenzie 37-yard run and a Darran Butts 7-yard rush.

Zion Riddick provided a highlight reel moment for the Vikings in the third as the sophomore ran back a 95-yard kickoff return to provide the only scoring for ECSU on the evening.

Hampton rounded out the scoring with an Austin Bradley rushing touchdown for the final margin, 65-7.

Hampton relied on a strong rushing attack that notched six touchdowns and 293 yards.

Redshirt-junior quarterback DeAbrie Smith rushed for 69 yards in his first outing in a Viking uniform.

The Vikings will be back in action on Saturday, September 7thas they will host Allen University. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m. at Roebuck Stadium.
