“In the beginning, I was in disbelief and overwhelmed,” said Wallace. “But now I am excited for the chance to play professionally. I have the best support system, and I know I can get through it all.”

Wallace (Oberlin, OH) signed her first professional basketball contract Tuesday with Hauker, located in Hafnarfjorour, Iceland. She reports on September 1, and is the fourth player since head coach Terrance Slater joined the coaching staff in 2014.

“I am extremely excited and proud of Brooke for achieving something that most players can only dream about,” said Slater. “From the moment the kid sat foot on our campus I knew that she would be a pro if she put in the work and matured. My staff and I poured everything we had into her and we got a huge return on our investment. This is a monumental day for Brooke’s family, KSU Women’s Basketball, and the Kentucky State University community as a whole.”

A transfer from Wayne State University after her freshman season, she knew Kentucky State was her next home after meeting with Slater. The coach she had played for in Detroit moved on, and Slater was the type of coach she was looking for.

From the first meeting, Slater assured her that she will have the opportunity to play professionally.

“He made me believe in myself,” said Wallace. “Thank you for taking me under your wing, always believing in me and never giving up. You stuck to your word.”

Now the biggest task ahead of Wallace before departing for Iceland is convincing her mother to buy an iPhone so they can FaceTime.

“She said she would think about it,” said Wallace. “Which means she will get one before I leave.”

Wallace was one of four SIAC players averaging a double-double with 12.7 points and 10.7 rebounds. She is 10th in scoring and fourth in rebounding. She had registered 15 double-doubles this season. Her 47 blocks are third in the conference and her 1.6 steals are 14th. She also recorded a triple-double with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals in a victory over Oakland City.
