Former Kentucky State University men’s basketball player Kevin Hayes becomes the second member of the 2018-19 squad to sign a professional basketball contract.

Hayes (Detroit, Mich.) has signed to play for Club del Progreso in Argentina. He joins former teammate David Jelks in the country. He marks the fourth player under Kentucky State University head coach Jamaal Jackson to sign a professional contract, joining Julius Barton and Toussaint Rose.

“When we sat in Kevin’s living room, two of the things that we spoke about was Kevin graduating from Kentucky State University and playing professional basketball,” said Jackson. “With Kevin completing his final requirement for graduation earlier this summer, and now joining Club del Progreso, he has accomplished both of those goals. Up until his joining our program, Kevin played around the basket. We told him that at 6’6″ 200 pounds, if he wanted to play at the next level, it wasn’t going to be in the post. He worked for the last two years at transforming his game and becoming one of the top wings in our conference.”

Hayes finished the season with 17.5 points and 3.0 rebounds, while shooting 46 percent from the field and 31 percent from the free throw line.
