Lady Blue Bears finally halt 12-game skid

SALISBURY – During a 12-game losing streak that dates all the way back to November. You could have been forgiven for writing off the Lady Blue Bears entering their game against Johnson C. Smith on Saturday in New Trent Gym.

Livingstone outscored JCSU 40-30 after the break to defeat the Golden Bulls 76-57 behind 21 points from Daisa Harris. The victory marks the first victory of 2019, and this first time since Jan. 25 of 2016, Livingstone defeated the Golden Bulls.

Two season-long trends continued in the Lady Blue Bears’ favor on Saturday. Their 20-15 lead after the first quarter increased their scoring margin in the first 10 minutes.

The Lady Blue Bears also outscored Johnson C. Smith at the free throw line, 13 to 12.

On the other hand, LC was outrebounded 58 to 42, and that advantage translated into a 20-9 edge in second-chance points.

Livingstone took control by leading a much as 29 over JCSU, who was evenly match with LC in the fourth quarter. But that wasn’t enough as LC took the win.

Darra Walker, was 5 for 9 from behind the arch as she scored 15 for the Lady Blue Bears. Kyala Searcy dropped 14 and Asia Green added 12.

The win improves the Livingstone to 4-15 overall, 1-8 in CIAA play and 1-2 in divisional play while JCSU drops to 9-10, 6-3 and 2-1.

LC will now hit the road for a three game tilt. First they will travel to Raleigh to take on Shaw University at 6:00 p.m. on Jan. 28. The game will be played at Spaulding Gym.
