Five players scored at least eight points with Cameron Campbell’s 18 leading the way as the Lincoln University Men’s Basketball team won their sixth straight game, beating Washington Adventist University 72-67 Sunday night at the Pit in Takoma Park, Maryland.

The Lions improve to 10-4 with the win while the Shock fall to 10-6.

Campbell connected on six of 11 shots from the field en route to his 18 points.  Tamir Green added 12 points off the bench (5-10 FG) and led the team with three assists.  Jordan Camper grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds while scoring eight points and recording two blocks on the night. Zahrion Blue and Deaquan Williams also added eight points apiece.

Therence Mayimba led the Shock with 28 points and ten rebounds while Xavier Sewell chipped in ten points and had a game-high four assists.

Lincoln used a 14-4 run midway through the first quarter to take a ten point lead at 27-17 with 6:25 left.   The Lions still led 31-21 before the Shock closed out the half with a 14-4 tear to even the score at 35-35 at the break.

The Shock opened the second half with a 9-6 run to take a 44-41 lead  and still led 46-43 when the Lions roared back with a 16-7 spurt to take a 59-53 lead with 7:14 remaining with five different players scoring points for the Lions over the course of the run.   Mayimba then led the Shock on an 11-3 run over the next three minutes, scoring eight points as WAU retook the lead 64-62 with 4:14 left.  A layup from Campbell and a jumper from Gevon Arrington put the Lions back on top 66-64 with 3:26 left.  Arrington’s basket was the last field goal by either team as both teams took to the foul line in the final three minutes to settle the scoring.  The Shock made three straight free throws to go back on top at 67-66 but the Lions closed out the game with a perfect 6-6 effort from the charity stripe over the final 46 seconds with Campbell, Arrington and Williams each knocking down a pair to seal the win 72-67.

The men’s basketball team will be back in action on Thursday, January 3, 2019 when they travel to play an exhibition game against Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland.  This game was originally scheduled for November 15, 2018 but was rescheduled due to inclement weather and hazardous traveling conditions.  Tipoff will be at 3:00 p.m.
