MEAC announces weekly Track&Field Honorees

NORFOLK, Va., March 27, 2019South Carolina State senior Tyrell Richard was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today, while North Carolina A&T State sophomore TeJyrica Robinson was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. Bethune-Cookman senior Jeremiah Peters earned Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, while Bethune-Cookman sophomore Monae Nichols was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.

Richard (Sr., Georgetown, S.C.) picked up right where he left off from the indoor season, winning the 200-meter dash at the Buccaneer Invitational this past weekend with a time of 20.65. That time is not only the fastest in the MEAC so far this season, it also ranks Richard second in the nation, behind only Jo’vaughn Martin on Sam Houston State.

Robinson (So., Quincy, Fla.) won the women’s 100-meter hurdles this past weekend at the High Point VertKlasse Meet, setting the pace in the MEAC with a 13.50 (.36 seconds faster than the next closest time). That time also ranks Robinson tied for 16th in the nation.

Peters (Sr., Cleveland, Ohio) won both the shot put and discus throw at the UCF Knights Invite this past weekend, turning in MEAC-best effort in the shot put with a distance of 17.16 meters (a mark that also ranks Peters 51st in the nation). In winning the discus throw, Peters set the fourth-best mark in the conference at 45.23 meters.

Nichols (So., Lakeland, Fla.) won the triple jump at the UCF Knights Invite, leaping 12.12 meters. That is currently the second-best mark in the conference, and it’s also good enough to tie for 64th in all of Div. I.

Other Top Performers
Carlin Berryhill (B-CU) won the 5,000 meters with a MEAC-best 15:00.17 at the UCF Knights Invite.

Deja Davis (B-CU) ran an 18:33.79 to win the 5,000 meters at the UCF Knights Invite.

Jessika Gbai (HOW) ran a 24.05 in the 200-meter dash at the UNF Spring Break Invitational, finishing fifth.

Neus Quinonero (MDES) came in third in both the 1,500 meters (4:46.29) and the 5,000 meters (18:25.33), setting a new PR in the latter.

Kobe-Jordan Rhooms (MSU) came in third in the triple jump with a distance of 14.10 meters.

Infinnatie Rowe (MSU) won the 800-meter run with a MEAC-best time of 2:09.13.

Trevor Stewart (NCAT) ran a 21.00 to take the 200-meter dash at the High Point VertKlasse Meet, a time that is tied for 17th-fastest in the nation.
