Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announces weekly Track & Field Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 13, 2019North Carolina A&T State junior Kermani Mighty was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, presented by the U.S. Marines, the conference office announced today, while North Carolina A&T State senior Kayla White was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. North Carolina A&T State freshman Brandon Hicklin earned Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, while North Carolina A&T State sophomore Nazah Reddick was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.

Mighty (Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) won the 400-meter dash at the Darius Dixon Memorial hosted by Liberty University this past weekend, turning in a 48.76 to take the gold medal.

White (Sr., Miami, Fla.) set the world’s fastest time in winning the 200-meter dash this year at the Tyson Invitational. Her 22.82, on top of being a MEAC record, leads both the conference and the nation so far this season.

Hicklin (Fr., Spartanburg, S.C.) set the MEAC’s best mark in the long jump at the Tyson Invitational, winning gold with a leap of 7.66 meters (25 feet, 1.75 inches), which currently ties him for 26th in the nation.

Reddick (So., Jacksonville, Fla.) won the high jump at Liberty this past weekend, leaping 1.70 meters (five feet, seven inches) to take gold and remain second in the conference in the event.

Other Top Performers
Jessika Gbai (HOW) won the 200 meters at VMI with a time of 24.32.

Anthony Gordon (HOW) came in seventh in the mile at VMI, turning in a 4:23.83.

Tamunoibi Dabipi (MDES) is sixth in the MEAC in weight throw after recording a distance of 15.98 meters this past weekend.

Chisom Onukwugha (MDES) won the 60-meter hurdles in his home meet, reaching IC4A qualification with a time of 8.25.

Atinuke Shittu (MDES) set a personal best in the triple jump with a mark of 12.30 meters.

Annastacia Barham (MSU) ran a personal-best 55.04 in the 400 meters at the Boston University Valentine Invite.

Jordan Cofield (MSU) came in third in the 60 meters in Boston, running a 6.92.

Kobe-Jordan Rhooms (MSU) was eighth in the long jump in Boston at 6.81 meters.
Zhane Washington (MSU) came in fifth in the triple jump in Boston.

Daniel Seawright (SCSU) leaped 7.28 meters in the long jump to win at VMI.

Ars’Breana Tyler (SCSU) won the long jump at VMI with a personal-best mark of 5.78 meters.
