ROLLA, Mo. — Miles scored the first touchdown in the first and second halves but had trouble slowing the Missouri S&T offense Saturday night in a 49-21 loss at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.

Leonard Tyree had 6 catches for 129 yards and Daniel Smith threw for 177 yards and two touchdowns for the Golden Bears (2-1). But the Miners (2-1) had nearly 500 yards of total offense in the first-ever meeting between the two teams, including 184 yards rushing against the Miles defense, which entered the game as the No. 2 rush defense in Division II.

Donte Edwards capped an 8-play, 80-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to give Miles a 7-0 lead. But the Miners would tie the game on a 58-yard touchdown pass from Brennan Sims to Josh Brown less than a minute later. The Golden Bears would struggle to move the ball the rest of the half and Missouri S&T would hold a 28-7 lead at the break.

After forcing a three-and-out to start the second half, Miles would score on the ensuing possession. Smith found LaAnthony Robinson on a 16-yard scoring strike to cut the deficit to 28-14. But the Miners would come right back, getting a 1-yard run from Sims to reassert a 21-point lead. Miles would score again in the fourth quarter when Smith would connect on a 1-yard scoring toss to Deondre Harvey at the 12:35 mark. But Sims would answer once again with his fourth touchdown pass of the night for the final score.

Wade Streeter had a team-high 61 yards rushing. Mitchell Smiley (nine tackles), N’Ktavious Floyd(eight tackles) and Austin Stephens (seven tackles) paced the defense for Miles, which hosts Lane on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
