Mississippi Valley State has first scrimmage of the year

The Delta Devils had their first full inter squad scrimmage of the season this Saturday during the team’s practice.

Head football coach Vincent Dancy seemed to be cautiously optimistic about what he saw on the field. Here is what he had to say post-practice :

“Overall, it wasn’t bad. We got 60-70 plays in and not too many flags. We’ve got some improving to do, but we got a lot on film to evaluate. A lot of guys got reps, and we still have another scrimmage before Tennessee State.”

“We came out and competed very well”, said wide receiver D.J. Clayton. “There are things to do better, of course, but we’ll keep working on the good things and perfect our craft.”

Senior defensive back Jonathan Jones had this to say about the performance of the defense: “It started slow, but we flew around fast once we got it together. But I think we’ll have a good unit this year. Once we start gelling, we’re going to be fine.”

MVSU will have their last scrimmage Saturday August 24 at Rice-Totten Stadium at 2:30 p.m. It is open to the public and fans will have the opportunity to meet the team.

MVSU’s season kicks off August 31 against Tennessee State University in the John Merritt Classic.
