NBL Free Agency: Anthony Drmic signs with Brisbane

From Liam Santamaria at nbl.com.au

With free agency underway, NBL Media’s Liam Santamaria is taking a look at each and every signing and breaking down what it all means ahead of #NBL21.

Signed by: Brisbane Bullets

The deal: Three years (mutual option final year)

Age: 28

2019-20 team: Adelaide 36ers

2019-20 stats (per game): 10.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 43.9 FG%, 29.5 3P%, 64.9 FT%

Projected role: With Gliddon out of town, Drmic should start on the wing and play a big load of minutes for the Bullets.

Quote: “I had a couple of different options, but I ultimately ended up going with Brisbane. I thought it was the best fit for me culture-wise and basketball-wise. There are couple of guys over there I already know and I like what (Andrej) Lemanis has been doing.” – Anthony Drmic

My take: This is a great signing for the Bullets who lock up a high-level Aussie wing – a guy entering the prime of his career – on a multi-year deal.

Offensively, Drmic operates well out of structure so Brisbane’s ‘flow’ system should suit him well. Yes, he could’ve sought out a bigger role elsewhere – there were certainly other interested teams – but he thinks he’ll excel under Lemanis and within the culture the Bullets have established over the last few years.

You have to love Drmic’s competitive-nature and his aggressive approach to the game is something the Bullets sorely missed at times last season.
