Prarie View defeats Grambling 92-87

GRAMBLING, La. | Prince Moss posted career highs in points and rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as Prairie View A&M outlasted Grambling State, 92-87, on Monday night in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.

Grambling State (13-13 overall, 7-6 SWAC) trailed at the break, 38-33, and both teams poured in 54 points in the second half.

Moss finished with a game-high 26 points, on 9-of-14 shooting, along with nine rebounds and one assist. Ivy Smith, Jr. recorded 25 points, four assists and two rebounds, while Dallas Polk-Hilliard added 10 points, nine boards, two steals and one block.

Dennis Jones led Prairie View A&M (13-12, 11-1) with 23 points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals. Gary Blackston added 22 points and five boards, while Chancellor Ellis registered 11 points and three rebounds.

Turning Point

With the game tied at 61 with 8:52 remaining, Prairie View A&M used a 10-3 run, capped by a Gary Blackston 3-pointer to take a 71-64 advantage with 4:48 left.

Grambling State closed the gap to 88-84 after a Nigel Ribeiro 3-pointer with 24 seconds left and a bucket by Ivy Smith, Jr. cut the deficit to 90-87 with six seconds remaining.

However, Antione Lister sank a pair at the foul line with four seconds to seal the victory.

> Grambling State shot 47.2 percent (25-of-53) from the floor and 65.1 percent (28-of-43) from the charity stripe
> Prairie View A&M was 28-of-75 (37.3 percent) from the field and 27-of-34 (79.4 percent) from the foul line

> The Panthers pulled down 38 rebounds, with 14 coming on the offensive end

> Grambling State finished with 34 bench points, 22 points in the paint, 14 second-chance points, 13 points off 10 Panther turnovers and four fastbreak points

> Prairie View A&M recorded 31 bench points, 30 points in the paint, 27 points off 24 Tiger turnovers, 14 second-chance points and 10 fastbreak points

> There were 10 lead changes and nine ties
