After coming out of the gates on fire with a 0-6 start, the Cleveland Cavaliers have broken off head coach Tyronn Lue, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Lue assumed the Cavaliers head coaching role after David Blatt was let go halfway through the 2015-16 season, despite having the top record in the conference at the time. Lue would “coach” Lebron James and the Cavs to a 27-14 mark over the second half of the season, which culminated in a classic seven game series victory in the NBA Finals over the Golden State Warriors.
The Cavaliers would return to the Finals the subsequent two seasons after their championship, but would get spanked both times by the Warriors, 4-1 and 4-0 respectively.
Lue was 128-83 during his tenure as Cavaliers head coach. Per Charania, the players have been briefed on the situation.
BSPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski’s reported that assistant Larry Drew will assume command of the Cavaliers. Drew was the head coach in an interim role last season when Lue took a leave of absence; he went 8-1 during his stint.
