Southern falls 72-57 at Akron

AKRON, OH –  Senior transfer Amel Kuljuhovic had career and season-high of 18 points but wasn’t enough as Southern’s late charge falls short as Akron defeated SU 72-57 at James A. Rhodes Arena on Sunday afternoon.
 
Montese Blake was the only other Jaguar in double figures contribuiting 13 points off the bench, Southern (3-6) was lead by Kuljuhovic with a team high six rebounds. Lamarcus Lee had five rebounds. Darius Williams had eight points and four rebounds. Damiree Burns had four points and four rebounds off the bench for the Jaguars.  

Southern built its largest lead in the first half up nine points with 5:19 left to go in the half. SU went into the locker room with a one point lead, 35-34. The Jaguars had the lead for 23:47 of the game that had five lead changes and five ties. SU shot 41 percent for the game (24-for-58) and 31 percent from three-point range (4-13). The Jaguars shot 45 percent form free throw line (5-11) and outscored the Zips 28-24 in the paint. Southern turned over Akron 12 times.

Next up, Southern will travel to Wright State on Dec. 12 at 7:00pm e.t., they game will be televised on ESPN3. The Jaguars will finish up the three game road trip on Saturday Dec. 14 when they visit historic Hinkle Fieldhouse to take on Butler at 12:00pm, they game will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
