Spencer Dinwiddie shooting jumpers already , season return not out of the question

When Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie suffered a torn ACL in his right knee on December 27, conventional wisdom suggested that he would be lost for the year.

Dinwiddie had surgery on January 4 and has been working at a frenetic pace in his rehabilitation. He is documenting his workouts and progress via his Instagram account; it is very apparent he has progressed very well in his recovery. He verified that sentiment in a Q and A at Collision, a tech conference last Thursday when he said his recovery is “going great.”

Barely four months post-surgery video was posted to his Instagram of him shooting three pointers with his trainer.

As a two-time ACL victim, I can say that he appeared to move very well. He was also not wearing a brace, which is a substantial physical and mental hurdle to overcome in the recovery process.

Dinwiddie has not ruled out the possibility of him returning this season, which would be a feat of Petersenesque proportions. It is not completely out of the realm of possibility, especially considering this is not his first rodeo with this injury. On January 12, 2014, he completely tore his ACL, MCL and partially tore his medial meniscus in his left knee in a non-contact injury. This torpedoed his draft stock (he was going to be a first-round pick), but this did not deter Dinwiddie. He still entered that year’s draft, going in the second round, 38th overall, to the Detroit Pistons. He worked his keister off and was able to dunk just four months post-op and was cleared in just seven months.
