Spring Hill defeats Tuskegee, 61-56

MOBILE, Ala. – Spring Hill College halted a nine-game losing skid Thursday night, defeating Tuskegee University, 61-56, in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Coaches vs. Cancer Suits & Sneakers Night at Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.

Justin Allison gave the Badgers their first lead of the game, 4-3, a lead that quickly grew to 8-3 and remained until Joshua Culver tied the game, 17-17, with less than eight minutes to play. Myles Thomas followed Culver’s basket to push Tuskegee in front, 19-17. Spring Hill regained its lead with six minutes to play in the first half, but a Thomas 3 put the Tigers back in front with 2:08 to play. Allison evened the score, 27-27, before a Thomas jumper gave Tuskegee a 29-27 halftime lead.

Quinn Sutton evened the score to open the second half, and then Allison dished an assist to Brandon Fischer for a lead-changing 3-pointer, 32-29. After three quick lead changes, Allison hit a 3 to put Spring Hill in front, 35-33, with 16:30 to play. The Badgers didn’t trail again.

Spring Hill built its lead as large as eight points, 49-41, on a 3-pointer by Gresyn Rogers, who finished with 15 points.

Tuskegee worked its way into a one-possession game, 54-52, when Mike Young hit a pair of free throws with 2:21 to play. Jared Holland, Allison and Fischer combined to hit 7-of-10 free throws in the final minute to secure the win. Six of the makes belonged to Holland.

Fischer finished with a double-double 14 points and 10 rebounds. Allison followed with 13 points and a team-best four assists.

Cam Grepke scored 17 points to lead Tuskegee, followed by Riley Hamilton’s 11 points.

Spring Hill (6-13, 2-8 SIAC) will travel to Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama on Monday, Jan. 28.
