Spurs fans have already taken to burning Kawhi Leonard jerseys

Throughout the nearly two decade of the success the Spurs have enjoyed, by and large , their fans have conducted themselves respectfully. The fan base has not drawn the ire that Lakers, Heat, and now Warrior “fans” have for their obnoxiousness during those teams runs.

The Kawhi Leonard situation puts both the organization and the fans in the unusual position of a player actually wanting to leave their ballclub. It is natural to not want to lose a player of his caliber and fans certainly have that right to voice their displeasure at the current state of things. Many of them have apparently taken to social media to do so but one took things one foolish step further by deciding to burn his Kawhi Leonard jersey.

Setting NBA gamers ablaze started in 2010 when LeBron James decided to take his talents to South Beach and jilted Cavs fan lit up Lebron jerseys in anger. Kevin Durant’s jersey were the next to get the combustion treatment after KD decided to sign with the Golden State Warriors.

While the practice of burning jersey is dumb, what the gentleman who posted the video of his Leonard gamer going up in flames in a profanity laced tirade fails to realize is that Kawhi is still on your beloved Spurs. It is not outside of the realm of possibility that these fences can be mended and he will remain with the Spurs for the foreseeable future. It seems forgotten that San Antonio’s other All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge, requested a trade last summer, but after a meeting with head coach Gregg Popovich, they were able to get things back on track and this past season was Aldridge’s best in San Antonio, as he averaged 23.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game and looked the player in Portland the Spurs expected to get when they signed him back in 2015.

Spurs fan remember, whether Kawhi Leonard leaves or remains with your team, setting jerseys does no good and has no bearing on how events will unfold. The only thing you will have done in unnecessarily polluted the environment and thrown away $100-$200.
