Stupid Things People Do For Sneakers: Hartford man arrested for trying to steal $265 worth of Nikes from Kohl’s

According to police, a Hartford, Connecticut man now faces multiple charges after he attempted to steal $265 worth of Nike basketball shoes from Kohl’s. Around 2 p.m. Monday February 20, police responded to the retailer for a report of a shoplifter. A man, Jorge Bermudez-Martinez, 25, was observed concealing sneakers under his sweatshirt. According to a police report, he was taken into custody by police as he left the store.

Bermudez-Martinez was charged with sixth-degree larceny ; he was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, as at the time of his arrest he he on his person two syringes and an undisclosed amount of heroin. Bermudez-Martinez was released after posting $2,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on March 2.
