Stupid Things People Do For Sneakers: Long Island man commits knifepoint sneaker robbery

Nassau County police arrested a Long Island man for allegedly stealing a pair of sneakers he had arranged to buy.

According to detectives, the 20-year-old male victim made arrangements through Facebook marketplace to sell sneakers to Alexander Almonte.

The two agreed to meet at a 7-Eleven located at 4420 Hempstead Turnpike. Once the meeting got going, as the seller/victim was showing Almonte, 20, the shoes, he grabbed them and ran southbound on Serita Drive, according ot police.

The victim pursued and subsequently confronted Almonte. The confrontation escalated, prompting Almonte to pull a knife and point it at the victim. It was at this point the seller realised that discretion was the better part of valour and disengaged and called 911. Officers from the Nassau County Police Department arrived and arrested Almonte at approximately 4:50 p.m. on June 1 without further incident.

He was arraigned the day after his arrest, Wednesday, June 2.
