SWAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Grambling State University senior guard Shakyla Hill has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after a history-making effort over this past weekend. The league made the announcement Tuesday morning.

Hill became the first player in NCAA Division I college basketball history – male or female – to record two quadruple-doubles, accomplishing the feat in a 77-57 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday. Hill finished with a game-high 21 points, 16 rebounds, 13 assists and 10 steals in the game, shooting 7-of-15 from the floor and 6-of-9 from the free-throw line in 32 minutes of action.

She followed those efforts by pacing Grambling State with 20 points, nine rebounds, seven steals and five assists versus Mississippi Valley State. On the week, Hill averaged 20.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 9.0 assists and 8.5 steals.

This is the sixth SWAC weekly award of the season for the Little Rock, Ark. native, who currently leads the SWAC in points (19.2), assists (6.0), steals (4.6) and minutes (35.2) per game while standing second in rebounds (8.0) per game.

Other Notable Performances:
– Texas Southern’s Niya Mitchell averaged 20 points, 14 rebounds and 3.5 steals during action against Alabama State and Alabama A&M. Mitchell accounted for 19 points, 15 boards and five steals against the Lady Hornets, and scored 21 points while grabbing 13 rebounds and making a pair of steals versus AAMU. The junior forward has posted a double-double in four straight games.

– Prairie View A&M’s Artavia Ford shot a combined 63.6 percent from the field while averaging 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in aiding the Lady Panthers to wins over Alabama A&M and Alabama State.

– Jackson State’s Marneisha Hamer averaged 20.5 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 60.8 percent from the floor in guiding the Lady Tigers to victories over Mississippi Valley State and UAPB.
