Tavaris Jackson killed in auto accident

Former NFL quarterback back Tavaris Jackson died as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile crash last weekend near his Pike Road, Alabama home.

The former Alabama State product began his collegiate football career at the University of Arkansas before transferring to Alabama State in 2003. As a Hornet, Jackson helped lead them to the Eastern Division crown and an appearance in the SWAC title game in 2004 and was named a team captain and all-conference performer in 2005, his senior season. In his time at ASU Jackson threw for 7,397 yards and 64 touchdowns and ran for 11 more scores.

He was taken in the second round (64th overall) by the Minnesota Vikings. He would also suit up for the Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks, which included their Super Bowl XLVIII winning team.

After his retirement in 2015 , he would eventually take a role with Alabama State as an offensive quality control coach in 2018.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Jackson family during this tragic time. He affected so many in this community with his willingness to serve and teach the game of football to the youth in Montgomery. He impacted so many lives in and around Alabama State and the city of Montgomery. A humble young man, he will be truly missed and will be remembered as one of the true legends of Alabama State football.

Jackson is survived by his wife Lakitta and three children, Tavaris, Takayla and Tyson.
