Tennessee State adds West Va. grad transfer Wesley Harris

NASHVILLE — The 2019 roster continues to grow with substantial talent for Tennessee State men’s basketball. Head coach Brian “Penny” Collins announced Wednesday the signing of West Virginia graduate transfer Wesley Harris (Jackson, Miss.).

“We’re excited to add a player of Wes’s caliber to the roster,” said Collins. “He brings NCAA Tournament experience after advancing to the Sweet 16 with West Virginia and can defend at an elite level while scoring at all three. He’s a vital component in making us a contender for the Ohio Valley Conference.”

  • Helped West Virginia advance to the Sweet 16 in the 2017-18 NCAA Tournament
    • Defeated Murray State and Marshall
  • Shot 36.7 percent from the field and 3.18 percent from 3-point range, averaged 3.6 rebounds
  • Attended Lawson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama
  • Was sidelined due to injury
  • Attended Northeast Mississippi as a freshman
  • Averaged 18.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game
  • Shot 47.1 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from 3-point range
  • Was named to the All-Region 23 Team and was an all-state selection
  • Led Callaway High to four consecutive state championships in Mississippi
  • As a senior, he averaged 10.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game
