Tennessee State to bring in Hue Jackson as Offensive Coordinator

from Kendrick Marshall of hbcusports.com:

A day after announcing it had hired Eddie George to be its next head coach, Tennessee State on Wednesday received a commitment that an ex-NFL coach would be joining the staff.

Former NFL head coach Hue Jackson has accepted the job to be the offensive coordinator at Tennessee State, 247 Sports and The Orange Is Oranger Browns Podcast reported.

Jackson has been out of professional football since he was fired in 2018 after three seasons with the Cleveland Browns.

Jackson’s prior experience includes acting as an assistant with the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, Washington Redskins, and Baltimore Ravens before being named head coach of the then-Oakland Raiders in 2011. Jackson was named NFL Coach of the Year in 2015.

On Tuesday, FootballScoop indicated through its sourcing that former New Mexico and Georgia State director of football operations Dusty Bennett will be chief of staff under  George.

The website also reported that Tennessee State was also targeting Brandon Fisher, the son of former NFL coach, Jeff, as defensive coordinator. Brandon Fisher was most recently a defensive analyst at Auburn and served as defensive coordinator at Southern Utah in 2019.

Other speculation involves the school going after at least one high-profile former NFL star for George’s defensive staff. The team already has former alum and one-time first-round NFL pick Dominique Rogers-Cromartie on the coaching staff.
