Terry Stotts and Trail Blazers agree to new multiyear deal

What a difference a year can make.

After embarrassingly getting swept out of last year’s playoffs by the New Orleans Pelicans, there was some speculation that Stotts’ job could be in trouble. A report by the Sporting News’ Mitch L:awrence indicates that late owner Paul Allen had denied Stotts request for a contract extension only fueled those fires.

Blazers GM Neil Olshey stuck with Coach Stotts and the team enjoyed their deepest playoff run since 2000, unfortunately ending in a sweep to two-time defending champion Golden State.

According to Joe Freeman of The Oregonian, Neil Olshey announced earlier today that an agreement on a new extension with Stotts had been reached.

Coach Stotts would have bee entering the last season of a four-year deal he inked in May 2016 that paid an average of $5 million. In his seven seasons in Rip City, Stotts has a 325-249 record, which is second in franchise history, making six playoff appearances.
