Tyronn Lue issues statement after being let go by Cavaliers

Starting the season with six losses in six games is not the way the Cavaliers envisioned starting their season, even in the post Leboncalypse era. Even though the team is bringing back 11 players from last year’s roster, without the confines of the LeBron James system, the roles on the team are vastly different and there will be an adjustment period. However, that does not excuse the atrocious defense the Cavaliers have played this season; they are currently dead last in defensive rating with a 120.1. Although six games does not a season make, the Cavaliers’ brass decided a change needed to be made and Tyronn Lue was relieved of his coaching duties.

Lue released a statement, obtained by Marc J. Spears of espn.com’s The Undefeated:

I am very grateful for the dedication, sacrifice and support of all the players on our team, the tremendous coaches I worked with and of course, our incredible fans. Lastly, deep thanks to Dan Gilbert, David Griffin and Koby Altman for the opportunity over the last three years and I only wish this organization success moving forward

  1. Interim head coach Larry Drew will attempt to get the Cavaliers in the win column in their next game,Tuesday, October 30 against the Atlanta Hawks.
