Warriors get vital ( and costly) 109-104 win in Game 2 of NBA Finals

There is an old adage of playoff basketball, that a series does not really start until a road team wins a game.

If that holds any water, then the NBA Finals have truly begun.

The Golden State Warriors used a 20-0 run in the third quarter to take a lead they ultimately would not relinquish, as they would go on to win 109-104 an tie the NBA Finals at 1 game apiece.

The Warriors got the win but it was not without cost. Center Kevon Looney left the game with a chest contusion and most notably Klay Thompson left the game in the second half with an injury to his hamstring. Thompson expects to play in Game 3, according to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes. Thompson told ESPN’s Rachel Nichols that this injury was not as bad as the ankle issue he suffered during last year’s championship round.

Like Thompson, Looney thinks he will be ready to go for Game 3, telling Mark Medina “that’s the plan.”

Both players will undergo MRIs Monday.

The three days in between Games 2 and 3 will be critical for Looney, Thompson, Andre Iguodala ( who is dealing with a leg issue) and even DeMarcus Cousins(who played an unexpected 28 minutes and the Warriors needed all of them) to get treatment and much needed time to try and recover. Even with the series , now knotted at 1, the Mash unit that is now the Golden State Warriors May necessitate an earlier than planned Kevin Durant return to try to help offset what the team may be losing with all the various injuries they are dealing with.
