Week 3 SIAC Footballers of the week

D’Vonn Gibbons (Savannah State) was named Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week, while teammate, Mitchell Smiley (Miles) earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Monday.

Kenneth Lockhart (Savannah State) was also tabbed Special Teams Player of the Week alongside Keynon Webb (Tuskegee) who earned Newcomer of the Week.

OFFENSIVE – D’Vonn Gibbons, Savannah State
Quarterback  |  6’3  |  Senior  |  Stone Mountain, Ga.

Senior quarterback D’Vonn Gibbons was instrumental in Savannah State’s 41-34 win over Benedict this week. With the game tied and 1:24 to play, Gibbons rushed 31-yards on a keeper for the go-ahead touchdown and SSU win. He led the entire field in rushing with 138 yards on 20 carries and two rushing TD’s. Gibbons connected on two catches for 45 yards in the air.

DEFENSIVE – Mitchell Smiley, Miles
Safety  |  5’11  |  Junior  |  Huntsville, Ala.

Injuries depleted the Golden Bears secondary, so Smiley was moved to safety for the first time in his career. He responded with a game-high 11 tackles (eight solo) in Miles’ win over Morehouse.

SPECIAL TEAMS –  Kenneth Lockhart, Savannah State
Kicker |  6’0  |  Freshman  |  Heinseville, Ga.

After a tough game against Livingstone, Kenneth “The Golden Boot” Lockhart stepped up in the Tigers 41-34 win over Benedict this week. Lockhart hit a career-best 44-yard field goal and a 30-yard field goal, punted four times for 194 yards and put up 399 yards on 7 kickoffs for the Tigers. He also added four extra points, contributing 10 total points to the scoring effort.

NEWCOMER – Keynon Webb, Tuskegee
Wide Receiver  |  6’0  |  Freshman  |  Jackson, MI

Webb topped all receivers on either side with a season-best 52 yards and three receptions, including a huge chunk of it coming on a 36-yard catch-and-run in the Golden Tigers’ win over Edward Waters.
