Week 9 SIAC Basketball Players of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. (January 27, 2019) – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has announced its men’s and women’s basketball Players of the Week.

For women, Alexis Carter (Tuskegee)was named Player of the Week, while Reagan Jackson (Clark Atlanta) earned Newcomer of the Week.

For men,Shelvick Henry (Clark Atlanta) was named Player of the Week, while Michael Reeves (Central State) earned Newcomer of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.

Women’s Basketball

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Alexis Carter, Tuskegee

Alexis Carter helped lead the Tuskegee University women’s basketball team to a 3-0 last week. The senior was the only Golden Tiger in double figures scoring 18 points, grabbing 17 rebounds, eight blocked shots along with two assists and a pair of steals in their win over Lane College. During Thursday’s win over Spring Hill College, she scored a game-high 23 points along with six rebounds and six blocked shots. The Atlanta, Ga. native closed her strong week out producing her 11th consecutive game scoring in double figures as she finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, two blocked shots and along with two steals. She now has 10 double-doubles this season.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK– Reagan Jackson, Clark Atlanta
Guard  |  5’7 |  Freshman  |  Chesapeake, Va.

Reagan Jackson, a freshman guard at Clark Atlanta, averaged 15 points over two games this week for the Lady Panthers. In CAU’s 69-53 win over Fort Valley State, Jackson had 13 points, six rebounds and four assists. Jackson, who is from Chesapeake, Va., scored 17 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals in the Lady Panthers’ win over Carver College. Jackson has scored in double figures in eight of her last ten games.

Men’s Basketball

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Shelvick Henry, Clark Atlanta

Shelvick Henry, a senior guard at Clark Atlanta, had 39 points in the Panthers’ two wins last week. Henry, the SIAC’s third-leading scorer at 17.2 per game, had 12 points and seven rebounds in the Panthers 85-68 win over Fort Valley State. Henry led the Panthers in their win 68-60 over 11th-ranked Morehouse with 27 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK– Michael Reeves, Central State
Power Forward  |  6’7 |  Freshman  |  Gahanna, Ohio

Freshman forward Michael Reeves averaged 10.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in three games throughout this week’s nomination period. While battling through wrist and ankle injuries, Reeves started the week with 9 points, seven rebounds and two blocks in a 65-60 win over Wilberforce. He scored 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two more shots in a loss to Wayne State. On Saturday, Reeves finished with 10 points, five rebounds and a block against LeMoyne-Owen.
