Howard’s Reeves and Simpson garner conference honors

NORFOLK, Va. (November 10, 2025) – The Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference (MEAC) unveiled its women’s volleyball weekly awards where Howard University saw two Bison recognized for their efforts versus North Carolina Central (NCCU) and South Carolina State (SCSU). The announcement came Monday afternoon.

Seniors Leah Reeves (Allen, Texas) and Claire Simpson (Plainfield, Ill.) won MEAC Setter of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.

Reeves guided Howard to a perfect 2–0 week, totaling 89 assists (12.7 per set), 17 digs and four aces. Friday (Nov. 7), she posted a double-double (34 assists & 10 digs) against North Carolina Central and added a season-high 55 assists in Sunday’s (Nov. 9) Senior Day win over South Carolina State.

For Simpson, she recorded a career-high 35 digs in the win over SCSU while helping the Bison to an undefeated 2-0 week.

Senior Rya McKinnon (Hoover, Ala.) and freshman Alexys James (Houston) earned honorable mention after their performances against NCCU and SCSU.

Norfolk State’s Gabrielle Gilbert was named MEAC Player of the Week while Coppin State’s Cherisse Atilano earned Rookie of the Week.

Howard is set to play Temple in Philadelphia Wednesday (Nov. 12) at 6 p.m. Later in the week (Nov. 14), the Bison play Norfolk State in Norfolk, Va., at 6 p.m.
