Tennessee State women’s hoops falls at home to Eastern Illinois, 67-54

title image via Tennessee State Basketball Despite their opponents committing 30 turnovers, the Tennessee State Lady Tigers were unable to sufficiently capitalize on the miscues and were bested by Eastern Illinois 67-54.  It was a familiar and frustrating tune for the Lady Tigers, as they once again stumbled out of the gate, shooting just 5-16 from the field (31.7%). The Tigers (4-13, 0-7 OVC) had three players score in double figures, led by Aaniya Webb, who put together a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. XaiOnna Whitfield tacked on 16 points and two steals off of the bench and Somah Kamara helped out with 14 points. Coppin State’s Laila Lawrence named to Becky Hammon Award Midseason Watch List

title image via Coppin State Athletics Coppin State forward Laila Lawrence was named to the Becky Hammin Award Midseason Watch List earlier this week.  The senior out of Lewisville, TX is averaging 16.8 points, which is second in the MEAC, as well as a conference-best 9.3 rebounds, while also adding 2.8 assists, and 2.7 steals in 20 games this season. Diamond Johnson continues to get recognition as her on-court exploits this season have earned the Norfolk State graduate guard a spot 2025 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of Year Midseason Watchlist.   The Watchlist comprises players from 15 teams and 10 conferences. Norfolk State graduate guard Diamond Johnson was named the BOXTOROW National HBCU Player of the Week.  Johnson helped lead the Lady Spartans to a 94-54 win over Delaware State in which she put in 28 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and dished out 6 assists.
