Despite getting evicerated by TCU, 122-39, in their last game, Coach Candice Dupree’s Tennessee State Lady Tigers ball club will look to pick themselves off the mat this evening against UT Arlington.
The Lady Tigers are still searching for their first win of the season, having also had close losses to Middle Tennessee, 69-64, and Wright State, 85-80. Aaniya Webb and Xai Whitfield are the team’s leading scorers, averaging 10.7 and 10.3 points per game, respectively. In addition to her scoring, Whitfield also averages a team-leading 3.3 assists per contest, which is also 9th in the Ohio Valley Conference. Kiki Roberts leads the Lady Tigers’ efforts on the glass, with her 7.3 rebounds per game, the fifth-highest mark in the conference.
UT Arlington (1-1) averages 58.7 points per game and is led in scoring by freshman guard Kira Reynolds, who averages a double-double with a team-leading 13.0 points and 12.3 rebounds per game, which ranks 9th and 4th in the WAC in each respective category—junior guard Jadyn Atchison chips in with 10.3 points per contest. The Lady Mavericks shoot the three very well, leading the WAC, connecting at a 43.8% clip. They also defend the three better than any team in their league, only surrendering a frigid 18.4% from downtown.
Trip off for tonight’s contest, which takes place at the College Park Center in Arlington Texas, is scheduled for 5 p.m. CST.
