In theory, Tonye Jekiri wasn’t even in the market, having signed a two-year contract with Baskoniain 2020, but that’s not the case. The 27-years old big man was released by Baskonia and will continue his career in UNICS Kazan, as the club has announced.
Jekiri had a break-out year in the 2019-20 season with ASVEL. He averaged 8.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in 27 games. Last season with Baskonia his numbers dropped to 6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists.
His move to Russia comes as a surprise because so far there was no indication that Baskonia intended to part ways with him.
