Makng a difference: Flavor Flav helps Olympian

On our youtube channel, we highlighted a union no one saw coming- that of the U.S. Women’s Polo Team and Flavor Flav, with the rapper becoming a sponsor and hype man for the team.

However the women of the polo team are not theonly national level that he is impacting.

Veronica Fraley is champion discuss thrower who secured her spot for the Paris Olympics by way of her third place finish at the U.S. Trials in Eugene, Oregon in late June. However as she entered the biggest competition of her career, sometthing weighed heavily on Fraley, as unfortunately real life problems also made the 4,635 mile journey to Paris.

Fraley let it be known that despite her athletic achievements , the NCAA Champion was unable to pay her rent. In a tweet to her X account, in which the Vanderbilt football team caught a stray, Fraley said “I compete in the Olympic Games TOMORROW and can’t even pay my rent. my school only sent 75% of my rent while they pay football players ( who haven’t won anything) enough to buy new houses and cars.”

Help was soon on the way, in the form of Flavor Flav, who responded to the tweet with “ I gotchu….DM and I’ll send payment TODAY so you don’t have to worry about it TOMORROW…and imma be rooting for ya tomorrow LETZ GO !!!”

Flav, along with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian stepped in and made the rent payment, with Ohanian sharing a screenshot of $7,760 Venmo payment made to Fraley and adding he liked the number, as it aludes to his Seven Seven Six Venture capital firm.

A spokesperson for Vanderbilt said via a statement on its website, that it provided Fraley “with the maximum financial aid consistent with NCAA regulations.”

The University also said on Friday “We also help our student-athletes navigate name, image and likeness (NIL) opportunities, acknowleging those are completely separate and indepenedent of the university by NCAA regulations and state law. We congratualte Veronica, not only on her many athletic accomplishments but also for completing her courses to earn her master’s degree. It is exciting that this Vanderbilt graduate representing the United States at the 2024 Olympic Games.”

In a subsequent post, Fraley thanked Flavor Flav and shared Ohanian’s post.

Fraley has also set up a GoFundMe to garner support as she emabaks on her professional track career.
