Team USA finalizes FIBA World Cup roster

Team USA has finalized their roster for the FIBA World Cup. That roster will not include Kyle Kuzma. The Lakers wing went down with an ankle injury prior to Team USA’s 98-94 loss to Australia Saturday and that will keep him out of the international competition, announced USA Basketball on Saturday. Dwight Howard’s agent Charles Briscoe told Shams Charania of the Athletic and Stadium that the big man has finalized a buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies and plans to sign a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers the moment he clears waivers. Stupid Things People Do For Sneakers: Off-duty NY cop beaten and robbed of his sneakers

Early Tuesday morning, an off-duty NYPD officer was beat up and robbed outside a bar. John Joyce, a housing officer assigned to Public Service Area 7 in the South Bronx, was leaving Mickey’s Tavern at approximately 2:15 in the morning when three men attacked him. The three men pummeled Joyce stole his sneakers and then escaped into the night. Joyce suffered a fractured eye socket and was taken to Nyack Hospital for treatment.

Florida A&M’s Isaiah Martin signs with CSM Galati

Romanian basketball team CSM Galati signed former FAMU center and alum Isaiah Martin. In the three games Martin played in the Eurobasket Summer league, considered the top international summer league, he averaged 5.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steals per contest. In the 18 games he played for the Rattlers, Martin put up 9.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game and was named to the National Association of Black Coaches (NABC) NCAA D1 All-Dsitrict Team.

Jelks (Conyers, GA) becomes the third Thorobred in the Jamaal Jackson era to sign a professional basketball contract.
