Tennessee State’s Terrell Allen named Big South-OVC Defensive Player of the Year

For his exploits on the gridiron this season, Tennessee State defensive lineman was named Big South-OVC Defensive Player of the Year. Allen led FCS in sacks with 14.5 (1.32 per game) and 28.0 tackles for loss (2.5 per game). The senior also ranked second in FCS in forced fumbles with 5 ( 0.45 per game). The Big South-OVC Football announced its weekly football honouress and two Tennessee State Tigers were amongst the players who garnered recognition. Terrell Allen -Defensive Player of the Week Allen’s gridiron exploits earned him Defensive Player of the Week for the third consectuve week. Courtesy of Tennessee State Athletics  Big South-OVC weekly honors this week after the Tigers’ 54-0 win against Lincoln as the league announced the honors on Monday morning. Terrell Allen was named the Defensive Player of the Week, while Jordan Gant was named Freshman of the Week. Allen earned his second straight DPOTW award after finishing with seven tackles, 4.0 sacks, 4.0 TFLs, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Tennessee State head coach Eddie George has led the Tigers to a 4-2 record after their 24-17 Homecoming win over Norfolk State on Saturday. Tennessee State’s Lowery named Big South-OVC Special Teams Player of the Week

Tennessee State kicker James Lowery was named Co-Big South-OVC Special Teams Player of the Week. In the Tigers 27-20 win over Kennesaw State on Saturday, the junior kicker belted a career-long 51 yard kick and also connected from 41-yards, extending his streak of consecutive kicks to five, all of which have come from at least 40-yards. Lowery was also 3-3 on extra points on the afternoon. This was the second time on the season Lowery has earned all-Conference honors.
