From meacsports.com : NORFOLK, Va., June 25, 2020—The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) acknowledges that Bethune-Cookman University has decided to leave the conference after June 30, 2021 but is also determined to continue its mission of being a viable NCAA Division I conference. With eight remaining full members, including six institutions that sponsor football championship subdivision (FCS)-level football, the MEAC will retain its NCAA automatic qualification (AQ) in nine sponsored sports. 2020 Souther Heritage Classic Canceled

Though sports are slowly beginning to resume, albeit with no fans in attendance, when college football reconvenes, the Southern Heritage Classic will not be amongst the games played. On Wednesday, the management of the game announced the cancellation of the annual event. The Southern Heritage Classic evolved out of alternating home-and-home matchups between Jackson State University and Tennessee State University. Tavaris Jackson killed in auto accident

Former NFL quarterback back Tavaris Jackson died as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile crash last weekend near his Pike Road, Alabama home. The former Alabama State product began his collegiate football career at the University of Arkansas before transferring to Alabama State in 2003.
