Smith were both in contention for the second and final spot in the 2024 CIAA football championship. The Golden Bulls just needed a victory over Livingstone while Virginia State needed a win and a loss by JCSU. JCSU’ Darius Ocean named BOXTOROW HBCU National Player of the Week

Johnson C. Smith quarterback Darius Ocean was named HBCU National Player of the Week by BOXTOROW. In the Golden Bulls’ 21-14 defeat of Shaw, Ocean completed 24-of-32 passes for 265 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions. CIAA suspends St. Augustine’s Athletics
