Utah Acquires Center Jusuf Nurkic, Trades Sexton and 2030 2nd‑Rounder

The Utah Jazz and Charlotte Hornets have engaged in a trade in which the Jazz sent out guard Colin Sexton and a 2030 second-round pick to the Hornets in exchange for Jusef Nurkic.

Nurkic was acquired from the Phoenix Suns, along with a 2026 first-round pick, at the trade deadline last season, in exchange for Cody Martin, Vasilije Micic, and a 2026 second-round pick. He made 26 appearances, including 9 starts, averaging 9.2 points and 6.5 rebounds in only 18.1 minutes per contest. Nurkic can provide scoring and capable of working on boards in either a starting or a reserve role.

Sexton arrives in Charlotte after spending the last three seasons with the Jazz. The former No. 8 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Sexton came to the Jazz in a trade after spending the first four years of his career in Cleveland. Used more in a reserve role to provide scoring off the pine, Sexton saw his starts increase significantly over the next two seasons, as he was in the game opening lineups 51 and 61 times, respectively. In his time with the Jazz Sexton averaged 17.5 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.5 rebounds. With LaMelo Ball’s unfortunate penchant for missing games due to injury, Sexton’s offensive talents will likely be needed when and if Ball misses time.
