North Carolina Central University has announced a leadership change in its women’s basketball program, signaling a new direction for the Eagles moving forward.
Head coach Terrence Baxter will not be retained after three seasons at the helm.
“We are thankful to Coach Baxter for his service, leadership, and commitment to North Carolina Central University and our student-athletes,” said Director of Athletics Louis “Skip” Perkins. “We appreciate his contributions to our women’s basketball program and wish him continued success in the future.”
Baxter’s final season came in 2025–26, where the Eagles finished 9–20 overall and 5–9 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play. Their season ended with a 70–52 loss to Coppin State in the MEAC Tournament quarterfinals.
Over his three-year tenure, Baxter compiled a 34–56 overall record and a 20–22 mark in conference play. His most successful campaign came in his first season, when NCCU went 16–15 overall and 9–5 in MEAC action, advancing to the conference tournament semifinals before falling 69–56 to Howard University.
North Carolina Central has confirmed that a national search for the program’s next head coach will begin immediately.
